About Me

I'm a 20-something grad school student who loves the Lord and loves the outdoors. I like to look at life as a series of adventures. That's why I love running- it's an amazing adventure that has taught me more about perseverance, discipline, and sacrifice than I would have ever thought possible. Not only does running keep me healthy and active, it makes me a better person. I've learned a lot about God and my faith by training for various races. The commitment and discipline required for running is a great analogy for the Christian life, so it makes sense to me why Christianity is alluded to as a "race" throughout the Bible.

I love many other things besides running. I like hiking, skiing, kayaking, swimming, biking, etc. Anything that gets me outside to enjoy the beautiful world God has created! Don't get me wrong, I'm not super athletic. I like being active and challenging myself. But I also like to sit on the couch and watch a movie and eat way too much junk food sometimes. I like to waste an entire day reading a good book. I procrastinate like no other. I'm active and I'm lazy. I'm energetic and I'm exhausted. No one's life fits perfectly into one category.

I love that about life. I love how different and exciting it can be. I have an adventurous spirit and I love to have fun! Living for God doesn't mean a boring life of reading commentaries and debating theological topics (though I do love a good Bible study and I do read commentaries!) Life is more than that, though. Jesus came so that we could have ABUNDANT life. He came so that we could be free.

Being free to live for Jesus means living an exciting life, not a boring one. I used to get bogged down by all the things I couldn't do. Christianity seemed like a long list of rules and it was hard to follow them all. Now God has given me a totally different perspective. I love God more and more each day and I want to live for Him. When I do things out of love, instead of a sense of obligation, life is exciting and beautiful and meaningful. I'm the happiest I've ever been.

Despite all this good stuff, my life is far from perfect. I don't always show God's love to others. I can be judgmental. I don't always find the motivation to go for a run. I learn a lot, but I also fail a lot. I don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm a superstar runner, student, or Christian. That's not me and it's not what this blog is about. This blog is about sharing my adventures, my thoughts, my journey. Hopefully I can encourage someone along the way. Life is a crazy adventure - don't be afraid to challenge yourself, to seize opportunities, and to do what seems impossible. Sometimes the most daunting task can turn into the most victorious triumph, and lead to the most fulfilled and exciting life you can imagine.
