Races

Here's a list of all the races I've done with a link to the race review. Enjoy!

11/12/11: Richmond Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 2:03:30
This was my first race ever! A great course and such a fun experience. My love for running was born. (Half Marathon #1)

2012

2/11/12: Virginia is for Lovers 14K -  8.7 miles - Virginia Beach, VA. 1:20:10
Tristan and I ran the whole race together. It was my first time running a race with a friend, and since then, I've found that I prefer it. Running with someone else is so much more fun than running by yourself and you can encourage each other when one of you struggles. The weather was cold, and it was a random distance, but it was a fun first race of the season.

4/01/12: Cherry Blossom Race - 10 miles - Washington, DC. 1:28:32 (PR)
I loved the Cherry Blossom Race! The temperature was perfect, it was a great course, and I felt fast! It was the first time I ran a race with a sub-9 min pace. The race was well-organized and everything went smoothly. It was also fun to spend the weekend in DC with some friends.

4/22/12: Columbia Muddy Buddy Race - 4 mile mud run with obstacles - Richmond, VA.
This was a two person team mud run. Tristan and I ran it together and it was COLD, but so much fun! There are obstacles that you have to complete together with your buddy so you have to stick together. Some of the obstacles were challenging and there was lots of mud on the trails. You WILL get dirty at this race.

5/12/12: Kinetic Half Ironman relay - Lake Anna State Park, VA. 2:05:23
I did this Ironman Relay with two of my friends. Austin did the 1.2 mile swim, Meike did the 56 mile bike ride, and I ran the half marathon. By the time I ran, it was the middle of the day and very hot. I struggled a little bit, but I had fun running as part of a relay team. (Half Marathon #2)

6/23/12: Henricus Dauber Dash - 5 miles with obstacles - Richmond, VA. 52:26
I did this race with my roommate Kelly. It was just okay. The obstacles weren't as cool as the obstacles at the Muddy Buddy race. Still, it was a cheaper, smaller race and you get what you pay for. Fun if you want to do a shorter race with obstacles and a mud pit at the end.

7/22/12: Old Port Half Marathon - Portland, ME. 1:58:51 (old PR)
I wanted to run a sub-2 hour half marathon with this race. I started out too fast, got overheated and dehydrated, and struggled through the last 3 miles, but somehow still ended up breaking 2 hours and setting a PR! It was a smaller race, which was fun, but HOT, and those last 3 miles around Back Bay seemed to last forever. (Half Marathon #3)

9/02/12: Rock N' Roll Half Marathon - Virginia Beach, VA. 2:11:41
I thought that since I was in the midst of training for a marathon, 13.1 miles would be easy. But I under-estimated how hot and humid it is in Virginia Beach in September and how boring it is to run a flat course. The humidity is what killed me though. I was sweating before I even started running and my clothes were soaked by the end of the race. Miserable. Would not run this race again. (Half Marathon #4)

9/29/12: Genworth Virginia 10 Miler - Lynchburg, VA. 1:36:06
My second 10-mile race. Tristan and I ran together the whole time. The weather was nice and cool. The course was hilly, but lots of fun. I decided I like the 10 mile distance a lot.

11/10/12: Anthem Richmond Marathon - Richmond, VA. 4:21:46
My first marathon! I loved it! I felt great the whole time. My parents came to visit for the race and they were waiting at mile 13.5 and mile 21.5 with Gatorade and gummies. The weather was perfect and the course was beautiful. I love running Richmond! There were some nice rolling hills and a big downhill at the end. Fantastic first marathon experience!

2013

4/28/13: Nike Women's Half Marathon - Washington, DC. 2:11:58
Fun race, great weather. Expensive, but we got a Tiffany necklace and an awesome technical race shirt at the end! The only downsides were the long lines at packet pick-up and the crowded start, but it was the first year for this event in DC. (Half Marathon #5)

6/2/13: Dexter to Ann Arbor Half Marathon - Ann Arbor, MI. 2:37:24
This was a terrible race for me. Between graduating from physical therapy school and studying for the boards, I didn't train at all for this race. I almost didn't run, but then decided to do it anyway and just walk some of it. The course was okay, but I was struggling the whole time, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. At least I can cross Michigan off the list. (Half Marathon #6)

11/16/13: Richmond Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 2:00:59
My third year in a row running Richmond! I love pretty much everything about this race. It's a great course, well organized, and lots of support along the way. This year it was rainy, but still as much fun as ever. We got awesome medals and a finisher's blanket. Definitely one of my favorite races! (Half Marathon #7)

2014

2/23/14: Love Rox Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 2:22:21
Didn't train, and almost didn't run, but decided to do it anyway. The course was two loops in downtown Richmond. It was a smaller race (easier to find parking!) and a fun course (with some narrow areas along the Canal Walk). I walked some of it, but still had a fun time. (Half Marathon #8)

3/16/14: Shamrock Half Marathon - Virginia Beach, VA. 2:05:01
The course was fast and flat. The weather was nice and cool, although a little windy near the beach. Very enjoyable and fun race, with lots of people cheering you on at the end. This would be a great course to try for a PR! (Half Marathon #9)

4/13/14: Rock N Roll Raleigh Half Marathon - Raleigh, NC. 2:07:16
The race was very hilly, and a little hot at the end, but still fun. The course was challenging with lots of ups and downs, but that made it interesting. (Half Marathon #10)

4/27/14: Diva Half Marathon - North Myrtle Beach, SC. 2:07:29
Fun destination race! Warm, but there was a nice breeze which is typical of Myrtle Beach. The course was scenic and shady for the most part, except for a few sunny stretches at miles 7-9. Medals with lots of bling and champagne at the finish line! (Half Marathon #11)

7/12/14: Jamestown Half Marathon - Jamestown, RI. 2:05:05
Fun small town race on Jamestown island, Rhode Island. The course had some hills, but was also shady. Not bad for a July race, although it did get hot at the end. (Half Marathon #12)

8/10/14: Monadnock Half Marathon - Rindge, NH. 2:04:20
This was the smallest race I've done yet (about 200 runners, and no timing chip). I enjoyed the laid-back small town atmosphere. The course had lots of steep hills- very tough! (Half Marathon #13)

9/27/14: Genworth Virginia 10 miler - Lynchburg, VA. 1:33:44
This was my second time running this race, and I had a great time again. The course is very hilly (the last 2 miles are uphill), but it's a lot of fun. My mom came to run the 4 miler, and she had a great time too!

10/4/14: Stonewall Jackson 20 mile run - Fredericksburg, VA.
Tristan and I ran this because we needed to do a 20 mile training run that weekend, and decided we'd rather do it as part of a race. This was a smaller race. Most people were training for MCM, just like us. I really liked the course, especially the part through the battlefield (so pretty and rural!), but at the end the traffic picked up and we had to run in single file along the side of the road. This is a quieter race- don't expect lots of cheering spectators. The Chick-Fil-A sandwiches at the finish were a nice surprise.

10/12/14: Hokie Half Marathon - Blacksburg, VA. 2:01:39
It rained the entire time, so I was cold and soaked. Other than that, it was a great race! After the first few miles, most of the race is on a paved bike path, which was very scenic. We got great race swag- a long sleeve and short sleeve tech shirt, a bumper magnet, and a really cool medal! At the end they had chili and a lot of other post-race snacks, but we didn't stick around since it started POURING rain right after we finished. (Half Marathon #14)

10/26/14: Marine Corps Marathon - Arlington, VA. 4:17:51
MCM was a bucket-list marathon, and it felt epic! It was a little too crowded for me- with 30,000 runners, you have to weave around people a lot. But it was a really cool experience- from flyovers and people parachuting down with flags at the start, to running right by the Capitol Building, to finishing at Iwo Jima with Marines handing out medals at the end. (Marathon #2)

11/15/14: Anthem Richmond Marathon - Richmond, VA. 4:16:01
The race was great, up until mile 20. Then I started getting hip pain, and struggled a lot the last 6 miles. I still love running Richmond, but this was my toughest race so far. Tristan stuck by my side and encouraged me to keep running, so I ended up with a PR! The race swag at the end was awesome- finisher hat, finisher blanket, and an awesome medal! (Marathon #3)

11/27/14: Turkey Trot 5K - Lynchburg, VA. 29:18
This was my first official 5K (not counting mud runs or color runs). I was still sore from both marathons, so I took it easy (and I have no idea how to pace myself for shorter races). I ran with Katherine and Allison, so it was fun. A 5K is over so fast!

2015

1/18/15: Key West Half Marathon - Key West, FL. 2:00:04
The course was beautiful and peaceful, especially the scenic miles along the ocean. However, the last few miles had a lot of twists and turns, which was annoying. Great destination race- fun race shirt and medal, fun course, nice weather. (Half Marathon #15)

2/8/15: Ralston Creek Half Marathon - Arvada, CO. 2:05:32
The weather can vary a lot for this race- the year I ran it was sunny and 65 degrees (unusual for February); the year before it was snowing! Miles 6-8 are mostly uphill, but miles 8-9 are downhill with gorgeous views of the Blunn Reservoir and Denver in the distance. Not too crowded, smaller low-key race. (Half Marathon #16)

6/21/15: See Jane Run Half Marathon - San Francisco (Alameda), CA. 1:53:34 PR
This was my best race ever! The weather was sunny but breezy (typical for SF), the course was along the San Francisco Bay, it was flat, and I felt great the whole way. I ran every mile under 9 minutes, and I got a PR! I celebrated with champagne at the finish area. LOVED this race! (Half Marathon #17)

11/14/15: Richmond Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 2:12:12
Fifth year in a row running Richmond. There's a reason I keep coming back to this race! This year was perfect. The weather was beautiful and cool and I ran with friends. We talked the whole way and kept an easy pace. It was so much fun! I never thought a half marathon would be easy, but the miles flew by! (Half Marathon #18)

11/21/15: Star City Half Marathon - Roanoke, VA. 2:07:19
I decided to run this at the last minute. It's a smaller, more low key race, but a great tour of the city of Roanoke! The course goes through the downtown area by the Hotel Roanoke, up and down some hills, through some neighborhoods, and finishes along the Roanoke River Greenway trail. It's a no-frills kind of race, but it's cheap. My only complaint is that the posted results were for net time only, not chip time. Unofficial time 2:06:48 (Half Marathon #19)

2016

1/1/16: Freezer 5 Mile - Sterling, MA. 41:15
Started the year off right with a five mile run on New Years Day! Thankfully it was not nearly as cold in Massachusetts as it could have been (though still pretty nippy). The start was at a high school and you could wait inside before the race (hallelujah!). The course had some nice rolling hills and they had Dunkin Donuts at the end!

2/6/16: Golden Gate Trail Half Marathon - Sausalito, CA. 2:19:09
First trail run! Very challenging - up and down huge, steep hills in Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Pacific Ocean. Narrow trail in some places, rocky in others. Challenging, but fun! (Half Marathon #20)

4/24/16: Big Sur Marathon - Monterey, CA. 4:14:56  PR
Challenging and spectacular destination marathon! It's a beautiful run along the Pacific Coast from Big Sur to Carmel, but be prepared for lots of hills and wind. My favorite part was running across the Bixby Bridge to the sound of piano music. Great shirt, unique medal. My mom and I had a great time exploring Monterey after the race! (Marathon #4)

8/9/16: Emerald Bay Half Marathon - Lake Tahoe, CA. 2:18:16
Beautiful start at Inspiration Point with great views of Lake Tahoe for the first 3 miles. After that, the course goes along a nice bike trail and ends on the beach. This is a smaller, but fun weekend of events, with marathons and half marathons on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Not my best race - I blame the altitude! (Half Marathon #21)

11/5/16: Hot Cider Hustle - 10K - Washington DC. 58:13
Such a fun little race in DC! The course is nothing exciting- you run through a series of parking lots. BUT, the race swag is awesome. We got a nice zip-up hoodie, a mug, and a candy apple and hot cider at the end. The weather was perfect and it was such a fun race with friends!

11/12/16: Richmond Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 1:59:54
Every year I'm not sure if I'll run this race again. There are so many other fall races to try! But Richmond was my first half marathon and my first marathon, so it has a special place in my heart. I was so glad I ran it again this year, because Tristan and I had a great time together and we finally got a sub-2 on this course! It was nice to have a great run after a miserable race in Lake Tahoe last month. (Half Marathon #22)

2017

2/11/17: Love Chocolate Half Marathon - Savannah, GA. 2:06:30
I wanted to run a race in Georgia before it got too hot! It ended up being in the 60's to 70's in February, but it wasn't too humid yet. The course was mostly flat or small rolling hills through neighborhoods with beautiful houses. It was a small race, so transportation and parking were easy! (Half Marathon #23)

4/1/17: Monument Ave 10K - Richmond, VA. 55:37
Fun, popular 10k with lots of crowd support along beautiful Monument Avenue.

4/23/17: Flying Pirate Half Marathon - Kitty Hawk, NC. 2:00:37
This was a small point-to-point race in the Outer Banks. It gets pretty humid there, even by April. The course is very quiet and peaceful, and the last three miles have some rolling hills on dirt trails through the woods. It wasn't my favorite course, but the Outer Banks is a fun weekend trip - we enjoyed the beach and loved our dinner at Goombays! (Half Marathon #24)

5/14/17: Delaware Half Marathon - Wilmington, DE. 2:05:11
Loved this race! The course goes along a river and through a park, and briefly through the city, with rolling hills. It was cool and breezy in May. Loved it! (Half Marathon #25)

2018

1/14/18: Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon - Lahaina, HI. 1:54:00
Nice run along Maui's west coast. Rolling hills and ocean breezes. Chance to see whales! Lahaina is a fun town to explore after the race. I got my second fastest half time! Great race! (Half Marathon #26)

3/10/18: Run For Hops 5K - Kona, HI. 23:13  PR
Wow! I ran my best 5K ever - at a 7:29 pace! I never thought I'd be able to run that pace for 3.1 miles. I credit my Crossfit training because I didn't train specifically for a 5K, but I did do lots of 400 and 800 meter runs in Crossfit. I got first place in my age group! (5K PR)

4/8/18: Hapalua Half Marathon - Honolulu, HI. 2:29:57
I ran with my friend Lacy and we did the run/walk method. It was pretty humid but we had a good time together laughing, talking, and seeing some of Oahu's sights. (Half marathon #27)

4/28/18: Nashville Rock N Roll Half Marathon - Nashville, TN. 2:16:12
Fun race with friends! I ran with Audrey and we liked running through the beautiful Nashville neighborhoods. (Half Marathon #28)

7/21/18: Newport Craft Brew 5K - Newport, RI. 24:40
The race was alright, the beer festival afterwards was awesome! So many different beers, ciders, and hard sparkling water to try. It was a beautiful day at Fort Adams State Park and the view along the bay was gorgeous. Fun family event for Kyle's birthday.

9/2/18: Kauai Half Marathon - Koloa, HI. 2:15:25
Great destination race! Beautiful views of the mountains, finishes on the beach. Humidity is a factor, but this year was pretty nice. Kauai is such an amazing and beautiful island! (Half Marathon #29)

11/10/18: Richmond Half Marathon - Richmond, VA. 1:58:28
This may be my last time running this race, and I got a PR for this course (and third fastest time ever)! Great weather this year and Kyle ran the last 6 miles with me. It was a great swan song to the Richmond half. (Half Marathon #30)

2019

3/9/19: Revel Kulia Half Marathon - Kona, HI. 2:27:59
A fun race for my birthday weekend with my friend Lacy. We ran together and I did the run/walk method with her. It was a fun net downhill race, and we went to the Kona beer festival afterwards! (Half Marathon #31)

2020

8/22/20: New River Gorgeous Half Marathon - Oak Hill, WV. 2:10:57
Second trail race. It was hilly and humid, but a beautiful race through the woods of West Virginia. Some rocky areas made it tricky to navigate. (Half Marathon #32)

2021

6/26/21: Angel Island Half Marathon - Tiburon, CA. 2:04:35
Third trail race! Amazing views of San Francisco, the Bay, the Golden Gate bridge, and Sausalito. I was killing it on this hilly course but a group of us runners went the wrong way and I ended up running an extra mile, so my time was over 2 hours even though I ran an 8:54 pace. Best trail race yet. (Half Marathon #33)

7/11/21: Narragansett Summer Festival Half Marathon - Easton, MA. 1:48:03
Hot and humid, but pretty run along Ames Long Pond and through Stonehill College Campus. I ran an 8:14 pace and got a PR, but beat that a month later in Utah. Free beer after the race! (Half Marathon #34)

9/11/21: Cedar City Half Marathon - Cedar City, UT. 1:46:50 (PR)
Net downhill race through a canyon. Nice views, smaller laid back race. I got a new PR and 2nd place in my age group! My quads were sore for the next 4 days after all the downhill running though! (Half Marathon #35)

10/23/21: Wilmington 70.3 Half Ironman - Wilmington, NC. 6:10:23
My first Half Ironman went better than expected! The swim was with the current, the water was calm, the bike and run courses were basically flat, and the weather was beautiful!

12/5/21: Rock N' Roll San Antonio - San Antonio, TX. 1:54:32
I didn't expect it to be so humid in Texas in December! The route was more hilly than I expected. Honestly, this race was a struggle! But exploring San Antonio was fun. (Half Marathon #36)
